To celebrate International Book Lover's Day, we're launching our new Meet the Bookstagrammers series. Designed to offer our readers a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a Bookstagrammer, we're kicking off with one of our very favourite bookish accounts, Laney's Book Corner.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My day job is a Nanny and Newborn Care Specialist, and I absolutely love it. I live in Victoria, and am currently in my 6th (and hopefully last) lockdown! Apart from reading, my hobbies include playing Dungeons and Dragons, and painting my nails. My favourite genres are Sci-Fi and Fantasy… and Dystopia. They’re just all so good. My all time favourite series is Red Queen, i’ve read it twice now, and will definitely read it again.
How did you get into Bookstagramming?
My sister has a bookish business (@kitstercronk), so I followed her cause I’m a great sister - and I saw all the cool pictures she was resharing from her customers, and thought, “hey, I could do that” - so I did! It’s been really fun growing my skills, and making friends.
What do you love most about the Bookstagram community?
I love how supportive everyone is. If I share a post or story about something I’m proud of, I’ll have people I’ve never met messaging me to hype me up and support me! Some of my closest friends are people I’ve met on Instagram, and I’m forever thankful for it. Also the book recs - I love that I’ll always have books on my TBR haha!
Which are you favourite bookish accounts to follow?
There’s sooo many! @littlemissstar55 is one of my favourites, because she’s so kind and supportive. @laurabookish absolutely nails every theme she tries, and has such a beautiful feed. @whatluciesreading, @booksaboutem, @jkbookish, @gabbyreadswithtea, @thegingerpageturner, and @chelseaslibrary are some of my other favourites!
Do you stick to the same genre or try to mix it up?
I mix it up! I love reading sci-fi, fantasy, contemporary, and sometimes even non-fiction books. I only branched out from sci-fi/fantasy books last year, during lockdown, and I’m so glad I did.
Do you have an all-time favourite book?
Red Queen! I know some people find it a bit cringey, and I totally get it, but I love it so much. Maven Calore is one of my favourite ever characters, and there magic system and world are so well done.
Are there any books you thought were over-hyped?
There’s been a few! I haven’t made it past the first Shadow and Bone book yet… But I did love the TV show, so I might try it again one day. I also wasn’t a big fan of Aurora Burning. I loved book 1, but book 2 fell really flat for me.
Is there a book that you’ve been meaning to read forever but haven’t yet got around to reading?
Poison Study! I’m slowly finding the books secondhand. I have most of them now, I just need time to actually read it.
What would you perfect reading spot look like?
I’d love to have a big puffy chair by a fireplace, with a rainbow rug underneath, and a soft blanket. And I wouldn’t say no to a magical never ending chocolate bar...
