Meet the Bookstagrammer: Katie from What Katie Read Next

Welcome to the sixth instalment of our new Meet the Bookstagrammers series. Designed to offer our readers a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a Bookstagrammer, this week we're chatting to one of our very favourite bookish accounts, Katie from What Katie Read Next.

Name: Katie

Instagram handle: @_whatkatiereadnext_

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Well, I’m a 40 (almost 41) living in Wollongong. I’ve been a nurse for 21 years next month! I have a 6-month-old Puppy named Bert who I s aright handful but goodness he is cute! I lived in Melbourne for 10 years and it is the best city in Australia! I love all things books, coffee, red wine and gin! And an unhealthy obsession with earrings- they almost out number my unread books!

How did you get into Bookstagramming?

I have always loved reading. My mum got me into reading at a very young age! The Babysitters Club was my jam growing up! I started my page 4 years ago now, I think. I had wanted to do it for so long and I bit the bullet and posted! Followed as many Aussie Bookstagrammers as I could (some who I am friends with now and adore) and the rest is history!

What do you love most about the Bookstagram community?

So many things! The people I have connected with over all the books from all over the world! The excellent authors that send me their books to read and review is always such an honour! I have developed some beautiful friendships on here which I am grateful for!

Which are you favourite bookish accounts to follow?

Oh gosh! There are so many! @bookishkiki @rattyreads @katie.reads.things @ihavenoshelfcontrol @islandreading @nicbookpanda @checkyourshelf_ @pagespawsandpetals @_aplaceinthesun … just to name a few!! These are a few excellent Aussie people!

Do you stick to the same genre or try to mix it up?

I love Crime/police procedural, Thriller/suspense, Romance & Romantic comedy mainly. I do enjoy a good dystopian/fantasy every now and then

Do you have an all-time favourite book?

Where the Crawdads sing by Delia Owens.

The Lace Weaver by Lauren Chater

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez

No Exit by Taylor Adams

Are there any books you thought were over-hyped?

Nine perfect strangers…. Did not like that one at all!

Is there a book that you’ve been meaning to read forever but haven’t yet got around to reading?

The Nightingale By Kristin Hannah

What would you perfect reading spot look like?

Bed mostly. Early mornings on the couch with the pup tho too.
